Barcelona will need to rely on home advantage when they host Napoli to determine a place in the Champions League quarter-finals tonight.

Victor Osimhen rescued a 1-1 draw for the Italian champions in the first leg of their last-16 tie, after Robert Lewandowski had given Barcelona a second-half lead.

Barcelona vs Napoli kick-off time & stadium

Date: March 12, 2024

Kick-off time: 4 pm ET

Venue: Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys

The UEFA Champions League match between Barcelona and Napoli will be played at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Barcelona, Spain.

It will kick off at 4 pm ET on Tuesday, March 12, in the United States (US).

Frenkie De Jong and Pedri, who were involved in the first leg in Naples, are out injured - joining Gavi, Ferran Torres, Alejandro Balde and Marcos Alonso in the infirmary.

In addition, Raphinha is a doubt with an ankle problem, while Ronald Araujo is back from his suspension.

Barca boss Xavi may use Andreas Christensen alongside Ilkay Gundogan in the middle. 16-year-old Lamine Yamal will feature in the company of veteran Robert Lewandowski upfront.

Barcelona possible XI: Ter Stegen; Kounde, Araujo, Martinez, Cancelo; Gundogan, Christensen, Fermin Lopez; Yamal, Lewandowski, Felix

Gli Azzurri boss Francesco Calzona will be without the injured duo of Jens Cajuste and Cyril Ngonge, while Amir Rrahmani emerges as a doubt after limping off in the 2-1 league win over Juventus at the weekend.

With Leo Ostigard in line to replace Rrahmani, Matteo Politano, Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are likely to join forces in the visitor's attack.

Napoli possible XI: Meret; Di Lorenzo, Ostigard, Jesus, Olivera; Anguissa, Lobotka, Traore; Politano, Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia

Since then, the LaLiga giants have gone three games without conceding a goal as their unbeaten run stretches to eight games.

Napoli, meanwhile, have not lost in their last six but were held to a draw at home to Torino on Friday evening.

This will be the third time these teams have faced off in a European knockout tie in just five years, with Barcelona winning the previous two having drawn the first leg 1-1.

Marcos Alonso (back) and Ferran Torres (thigh) have both failed to recover in time after they missed the weekend win over Mallorca.

Raphinha has been named in the squad though after he was taken off with a knock. Pedri (thigh), Frenkie de Jong (ankle), Gavi (knee) and Alejandro Balde (hamstring) have all been ruled out.

Xavi will bring Robert Lewandowski back into his attack after being rested while Ronald Araujo will play having served a domestic suspension.

Napoli boss Francesco Calzona went with a strong line-up in the draw with Torino but should call upon Hamed Traore to return to his midfield. Piotr Zielinski is ineligible.

Leo Ostigard and Amir Rrahmani are competing to start in defence as the latter eyes a return to full fitness. Jens Cajuste and Cyril Ngonge return after recent lay-offs.

Neither team is expected to threaten to win this trophy, so a run to the quarter-finals would be more or less job done for both.

Barcelona’s home advantage could prove key but a number of damaging injuries open the door to Napoli, who perhaps just lack the killer edge to upset the local fans.

The Neapolitans were knocked out by the Catalans in the 2019-20 Champions League last-16 and the 2021-22 Europa League knockout play-off round, and on each occasion the first leg finished 1-1.

Robert Lewandowski and Victor Osimhen were both on the scoresheet in Naples last month, teeing up the tie perfectly as two giants of the European game look to reach the quarter-finals.

While neither the champions of Spain or Italy are quite as impressive this time around compared to last year, a 1-1 scoreline heading into tonight’s game makes it a fascinating prospect.

Napoli, the Italian champions will be looking to go one better than their best-ever finish, which was in the last season of the Champions League in 202-23 where they reached the quarterfinal. The first leg in Naples finished at 1-1.

Barcelona and Napoli haven’t played too much together and as a result, there have been only two encounters between two clubs for which legendary Diego Maradona played. In those seven matches, Barcelona have won four and three matches have ended in a draw.

Since Barcelona will be playing at home, they are the favourites without any doubt. Also, Barcelona has not lost a single game in their last eight matches, while Napoli on the other hand was beaten by AC Milan.

The home team are in a deep crisis due to injuries as both Frankie de Jong and Pedri are out injured, while Ferran Torres is still absent. Lamine Yamal and Ilkay Gundogan will support Joao Felix and Robert Lewandowski in the attacking line.

Coach Francesco Calzona can count on most of his roster, and he's expected to choose the ideal starting eleven, with Matteo Politano playing on the right attacking wing, while Victor Osimhen will be supported by Kvicha Kvaratskhelia on the left wing.
